A musical exchange between Sufi and indigenous traditions
OktoEcho and Nistamikwan
An original work by Katia Makdissi-Warren and Moe Clark
(Morocco, Quebec)

A true hymn to life, Transcestral expresses the common and everlasting quest for harmony between man and nature, inspired by sacred dances drawn from the ancestral traditions of Sufis of the Arab world and indigenous people of Canada.

Composer Katia Makdissi-Warren shares the artistic direction of this musical mosaic with Métis vocalist Moe Clark. Recognized for their unique and original works inspired by their ancestral lineages and rich with poetic lyricism, they have invited an array of top-calibre artists on stage. Moroccan singers Anouar Berrada and Laila Gouchi will join the pow wow group Eya-hey Nakoda, Inuit throat singer Nina Segalowitz, Innu poet Joséphine Bacon and dancers Tanya Evanson (whirling dervish) and Barbara Diabo (hoop dancer).

Transcestral is transmission; ancestral memories invoked through music to inspire trance.
